Japan Refuses to Approve Sony's PSN

Government says it won't authorize reboot unless Sony shows what precisely it's doing to protect customers

Sony confirmed that it was beginning a regional,
phased restoration of PSN, the news followed weeks of no service and during the outage Sony maintained the reason for the lengthy outage was that Sony was trying to do its job and make sure users’ information was as safe as possible It seems the Japanese government isn’t convinced, as it’s blocking the restoration of PSN until it can verify that Sony has taken care of a few issues.

"We met with Sony on May 6 and 13, and basically we want two things from them," Kazushige Nobutani, director of the Media and Content Industry department at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

The first is preventative measures. For security reasons, Nobutani did not provide details about the areas in which the government believes Sony is lacking.

The second thing the ministry wants is for Sony to share how it plans to win back consumer confidence.

"We are still in talks with various authorities .By receiving advice from the industry ministry, we would like to have the service in Japan ready."a spokeswoman for the company(SONY)

Previous comments from the company suggest that it hopes to have full service restored by the end of the month.
