Alice: Madness Returns Preview

Madness Returns takes place ten years after the events of the first game, so Alice has been released from Rutledge Asylum, and is working at the Houndstitch Home..So  Alice returns to Wonderland and the game begins.

I was surprised the twisted beauty of the world, so i spend a few minutes , running around, in  the initial area wher she landed, and in just admiring the place.I was surprised also of  the actual feel of the game, after seeing how far the visual elements of the series had come. But since Wonderland is meant to reflect Alice's trouble psyche, it's not long before the gentle brooks begin to run red with blood.

The game is in the third person, with the camera behind and slightly above Alice, giving players a substantial view of the surroundings and any nearby enemies. The controls and Alice's movements are a little out of sync with the game world, jumping is a bit too stiff and her running seems off., and while it probably won't win any awards for entirely innovative mechanics, the weapons and abilities that Alice has on tap are solidly implemented and fun to use.The world is filled with hidden platforms that can only be seen when she's tiny, with a ghost image of them lingering momentarily once she returns to normal size.
Teeth are used as currency for upgrading Alice's weapons at certain points in each chapter. Her butcher knife, the Vorpal Blade, can be made to deal more damage and  the Pepper Grinder, once upgraded, fires longer before overheating.

I have to say that its atmosphere and cleverness are mightily impressive so far and  its presentational aspects are its strongest suit, the malformed and exaggerated characters, or the darkly poetic dialog, to Wonderland's beautifully twisted vistas.
It will be released on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 on 14 June in USA / 17 June 2011 in Europe
